Classic Los Angeles Architecture: Hancock Park

Finally with a few days off, my beaux and I took to the Los Angeles streets for some architectural exploration. It is an interest that he first started but as time went on and we started exploring all of LA county for work, I got into it too. Now it’s fun to call out architectural styles as we walk or drive around the city, and realizing the history of areas just through the buildings alone.

So today we took a walk in the Hancock Park area of LA, because going past it the last few days we noticed some amazing buildings that we had to explore further. Like this building The Mauretania,  on Rossmore Ave. which was an original moderne art-deco built in 1934 by Milton J. Black, architect for Jack Haley- the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. President John F. Kennedy lived here while in Los Angeles as well as the Ahmanson Family.

Continuing to walk along Rossmore ave. we came to another beautiful building, El Royale. Recently purchased in 2012 for $29.5 million in cash, mind you, is a gorgeous Spanish Renaissance Revival style building with a beautiful interior. One of which I couldn’t photograph inside of because the full time doorman was a bit nervous about us walking in, although in our defense the door was open and we stated our purpose.

"The unveiling of the El Royale in 1927 by famed architect William Douglas Lee was described as “a decorous setting of inimitable beauty”. Like her sister property, the charming Chateau Marmont, the El Royale set the standard for vintage Hollywood architectural elegance and prestige.” 

It has vintage bathroom tile! and hardwood floors throughout. Although a revision or two has been made to the living areas the Lobby has original moldings, and hand painted ceilings.

Open During Construction

Under Construction but Still Functioning

Hey so I am getting my blog as pretty as possible. I have been working all morning to improve the layout and get it so that as time goes by posts will be easily located and we can stay in touch with each other easier. Please bare with me as the construction continues but the posts won’t stop just because of that. Tomorrow you can look forward to THURSDAY PRODUCT REVIEW.

Thursday product review will be a weekly review of cosmetics that as vintage gals we all rely on. Tomorrow I will start with a lipstick, for now though I must go.

Tonight me and the boyfriend are going to Knotts Scary Farm! and there is still plenty of work to do, and an outfit to pick out. I will surely tell you all about my adventures on friday.
