Product Review Thursday: L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly

This weeks product is L’Oreal’s Voluminous Butterfly Mascara 

I never felt the need to wear mascara because as I was growing up it always felt like too much. However as my look has evolved mascara has become a staple in my everyday routine. This mascara in particular is a one that has me hooked. 

After others from the budget section made my eyes water, not from tears of joy let me tell you, I decided to try this. Well it does live up to the advertisement, as it lifts my eyelashes and gives that full effect with little to no clumping. Though it doesn’t feel too much either, in fact I do one layer for day wear and two for evening/going out. So it’s pretty versatile.  

This mascara didn’t leave me in tears, my eyes didn’t water and it didn’t irritate them to redness either. So other than a bit hard to wash off (it’s waterproof) it seemed to treat my skin and eyes pretty well.

The applicator does help even me, the not so experienced, get a good look. It’s easy and no smearing or drying out by the applicator either. 

The price was a bit much because I bought this when it first came out, but now that it’s been around awhile, I have seen the price drop a bit. 

All in all <3 <3 < (again for the price, but one day I will find that product that is perfect and kind to my purse)

Pressed Powder Duel

It’s Thursday and you know what that means lovely product reviews. Well this week I thought I would do something less flashy, yet something just as vintage as lipstick, pressed powder.

Recently I have changed from using Revlon Color Stay pressed powder to Cover Girl Clean, because of the cost. So I thought I would review both side by side this week. Now if you would like to know what my review guidelines are you can refer back to last weeks post for a better understanding.

Cover Girl “Clean” Powder:

This product is a nice a little addition to my makeup bag. Its modern look is appealing to a lot of people and the blue is a nice touch. 

Powder is simple enough to use on its own, however the one thing this particular product is lacking is a space for the applicator it comes with. For the price though I am happy enough that it comes with a mirror and it’s passed the purse durability test.

As far as my skin goes, this one is not as flawless looking as Revlon, and gives a caked on look if applied to heavy. Though a thin layer is something to strive for anyhow. I have been having a tough time with my skin due to the season change so I can’t say if this is the reason for my small breakouts here and there or if it’s the Olay face soap (to be reviewed next week). 

All in all I give this little powder: <3 <3 (It does the job)

Revlon "Color Stay" Powder:

This was my first pressed powder and if what they say about first loves is true than perhaps I am bias. The design I had was an all closed lid and the rest the same as the photo. The sleek black design felt as if I was calling upon the spirits of Lucille Ball and Lauren Becall every time I opened it. Okay that may be a bit dramatic, but I was excited to use it. Also it had a compartment for the applicator which is nice when you’re juggling makeup in a tiny bathroom. 

Though I daresay that I paid for these luxuries, maybe not MAC or Sephora prices but for a gal on budget $10 is still a bit much sometimes. The way it worked on my skin though was worth every penny. It covered with a Golden Era movie glow and its staying power is grand. Having oily skin sometimes reapplication is a must every hour or so, but not too much with this and only to the T-zone after about three hours. It didn’t clog my pores too bad, and washed away easily.

Classic Movie Review

It Happened One Night

I thought I would start off with a movie everyone, from the newcomer to advanced watcher of classic cinema could enjoy.

“It Happened One Night” is a romantic comedy about a spoiled heiress and a regular old journalist making their way to New York. The two come from separate worlds but perhaps that isn’t such a bad thing. 

Claudette Colbert seemingly was born into this role as she sucks the viewer right in when she assertively takes charge on the highway or innocently is lost in a world she has never had much to do with. Both being endearing, where it could have been obnoxious. 

Clark Gable is the lead man and the comedic timing is wonderful. Never does he overwhelm his costar, like a true great he plays off her and the others surrounding him. I don’t think anyone else could have taken the lead man in this movie.

Without giving too much away for those who haven’t seen it, I will tell you that it evoked feelings of being in a dreamy cloud throughout the entire movie. Now I do pay credit to the lighting but also the chemistry between these two definitely had something to do with it. 

However don’t think that this is all romance and no comedy because there are plenty of laughs that will bring a smile to those who have had the worst of days. 

Even as this movie ended I didn’t want the walls of Jericho to fall, I wanted to stay a little longer in this world of zany paper men and sing along with drunken travelers.

If you haven’t seen it, or are aprehensive about classic movies in general,  you should watch this one. It Happened One Night will surely change your mind and you might even be tempted to watch more. 

Product Review Thursday: Maybelline 24 hour Superstay Lipstick

First things first sorry for such a late post but it was a late night and long day at work, but here I am as promised with a review. Anyway here we go with the fun!

Based on this there will be a max of three <3’s given. Got it? good lets get to it then.

Maybelline 24 hour Superstay Lipstick

I have only started wearing makeup on a daily or close to daily basis in the last 8 or 9 months, and let me tell you this lipstick won me over. 

So first it’s longevity is in the name 24 hours of wear and as a gal that isn’t used having her lips covered this is great. Even when out on the town, it’s still there the morning after, like a good man or lipstick should be. Though it should be noted that when eating oily/greasy foods it will come off a bit but as you can see above the color and lip conditioner is in one stick which is nice. 

Speaking of conditioner, that was the only thing that I could find to complain about, the drying it seems to do, but the conditioner it comes with more than takes care of that. I even use it when not wearing the lipstick as it makes my lips really soft. 

The wand makes application pretty simple and it has a nice point which you want because it can be a bit of a drag if you mess up on the go, (it really is superstay) but no prob if your at home just use some make up remover. 

It can be a bit pricey for the thrifty of us, but for what I have seen out there it is a good deal at $12 because I have had mine for 6 months and it still going strong.

Open During Construction

Under Construction but Still Functioning

Hey so I am getting my blog as pretty as possible. I have been working all morning to improve the layout and get it so that as time goes by posts will be easily located and we can stay in touch with each other easier. Please bare with me as the construction continues but the posts won’t stop just because of that. Tomorrow you can look forward to THURSDAY PRODUCT REVIEW.

Thursday product review will be a weekly review of cosmetics that as vintage gals we all rely on. Tomorrow I will start with a lipstick, for now though I must go.

Tonight me and the boyfriend are going to Knotts Scary Farm! and there is still plenty of work to do, and an outfit to pick out. I will surely tell you all about my adventures on friday.
